THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MANNA Manna was the food that God provided for the Israelites after they left Egypt. (See Exodus 16:31, 16:35) It stands out as a symbol of God’s provision for His people. Manna has great spiritual significance and application in scripture. As bread, it speaks of sustaining life. As bread from heaven, manna illustrates God’s continuing presence with His people and His concern for their well-being. As daily bread, it portrays our need to depend on God moment by moment. Manna would spoil if kept beyond the day it was gathered. This reminds us of the futility of our attempts to provide for our future apart from God. God still provides for the needs of His people. Like manna, there is always an ample supply of God’s help, but it must be gathered. This demonstrates God’s faithfulness and our responsibility. In the counseling environment, we seek the “manna” that is needed, trusting God that it will be provided.
